B Group Vitamins
|
$555
|
|
|
Description:
Vitamin B is responsible for your energy, focus and metabolism. There are several types of B vitamins, such as B 1, 2, 3, 5 and 12. Together they are called B complex.
B vitamins are water-soluble. That means your body flushes them out as you drink water. So they always need to be topped up.
If you don't consume meat or animal products as part of your diet then you need to pay close attention to your levels as B vitamins are rare in plants. Especially vitamin B12. You must supplement it as plants don't produce it.
Low vitamin B12 levels can lead to medical issues so a regular test is advised.
Includes:
Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) LC/MS/MS
Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
Vitamin B3: Nicotinamide, Nicotinic Acid
Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)
Vitamin B6
Vitamin B12
Patient Instructions:
You should fast for 8 hours before collection of the specimen. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 8 hours before testing. Avoidance of vitamin supplements for 24 hours prior to collection is preferred.
Estimated turnaround for results is 7 business days. If confirmation testing is required, the estimated time may be extended.

Description:
Bile acids are formed in the liver, from cholesterol, stored and concentrated in the gallbladder, and excreted into the intestines in response to food. Elevated concentrations often suggest impaired hepatic clearance due to liver disease. Patients with intestinal malabsorption and metabolic disorders such as Gilbert's disease do not exhibit elevated bile acids concentrations.

Description:
Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a rare disorder that typically occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy and is associated with itching, jaundice and disturbances in liver enzymes. While it poses little risk for the mother it may cause problems for the fetus, including preterm delivery, perinatal mortality and other disorders. Measurement of maternal serum bile acids can help in the diagnosis of ICP as the serum total bile acids are increased significantly (6-fold) with large increases primarily in cholic acid (12-fold).

Description:
Used to screen pregnant women for obstetric cholestasis. Symptoms of cholestasis included persistent itching in the third trimester of pregnancy and possible risks of unborn baby including stillbirth, premature labor and bleeding. The frequency of obstetric cholestasis varies and is 1 in 100 in pregnant European women vs. 1 in 10 in South American women. Total bile acids levels are the most sensitive indicator for monitoring the effectiveness of interferon treatment of chronic hepatitis C patients.Total bile acids are metabolized in the liver and, hence, serve as a marker for normal liver function. Serum total bile acids are increased in patients with acute hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, liver sclerosis and liver cancer.

Description:
Measurement of the levels of bilirubin is used in the diagnosis and treatment of liver, hemolytic, hematologic, and metabolic disorders, including hepatitis and gall bladder obstruction. The assessment of direct bilirubin is helpful in the differentiation of hepatic disorders. The increase in total bilirubin associated with obstructive jaundice is primarily due to the direct (conjugated) fraction. Both direct and indirect bilirubin are increased in the serum with hepatitis.
Alternative Names(s): Conjugated Bilirubin
A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Measurement of the levels of bilirubin is used in the diagnosis and treatment of liver, hemolytic, hematologic, and metabolic disorders, including hepatitis and gallbladder obstructive disease.
Causes of high bilirubin: Liver disease: hepatitis, cholangitis, cirrhosis, other types of liver disease (including primary or secondary neoplasia); alcoholism (usually with high AST (SGOT), GGT, MCV, or some combination of these findings); biliary obstruction (intrahepatic or extrahepatic); infectious mononucleosis (look also for increased LD (LDH), lymphocytosis); Dubin-Johnson syndrome; Gilbert disease1 (familial hyperbilirubinemia) is encountered as a moderate elevation with otherwise unremarkable chemistries.
Anorexia or prolonged fasting: 36 hours or more may cause moderate rise.
Pernicious anemia, hemolytic anemias, erythroblastosis fetalis, other neonatal jaundice, hematoma, and following a blood transfusion, especially if several units are given in a short time.
Pulmonary embolism and/or infarct, congestive heart failure.
Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Description:
Biotinidase Deficiency (BD) is an inborn error of metabolism affecting the metabolism of the vitamin biotin. Untreated, BD results in metabolic uncoupling with ketoacidosis, failure to thrive, dermatological manifestations and seizures. BD is easily treated by the administration of exogenous biotin by mouth. Newborn screening is available for BD by enzymatic analysis of newborn screening blood spots. Unfortunately this assay has many false positives. DNA sequencing overcomes this problem. Finding 2 deleterious variants will confirm the diagnosis of BD and allow treatment to be begin prior to the development of symptoms. In addition, Biotinidase Sequencing will allow carrier detection and prenatal diagnosis for families with an affected individual.

Description:
Biotin (Vitamin B7) - Biotin, vitamin B7, or vitamin H, is a water soluble vitamin. The vitamin plays a role in the transferring of carbon dioxide in the metabolism of fat, carbohydrate and protein by functioning as an enzyme cofactor. It is involved in multiple biochemical reactions including niacin metabolism, amino acid degradation, and the formation of purine, which is an integral part of nucleic acids. It interacts with histone by the action of biotinyl-transferase. Sometimes the vitamin is used in weight reduction programs. It may be prescribed as a supplement for diabetic patients due to its role in carbohydrate metabolism. Biotin is commonly found in vitamin B complex and many food sources, such as milk, yeast, egg yolk, cereal, and mushrooms. The reference daily intake [RDI of 101.9(c) (8) (IV)] for vitamin B7 is 300 micrograms. Deficiency in the vitamin may result in seborrheic dermatitis, alopecia, myalgia, hyperesthesia, and conjunctivitis. Disorders of biotin metabolism can be acquired or congenital. Biotinidase and holocarboxylase synthethase deficiency are the two better known forms of disorders. The lack of biotin-dependent pyruvate carboxylase, propionyl-CoA carboxylase, methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase, and acetyl-CoA carboxylase can lead to the life-threatening disorder of multiple carboxylase deficiency. Treatment involves a daily dose of approximately 10 mg biotin/day. Irreversible mental or neurological abnormalities may result from delayed clinical intervention.
Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Description:
This test quantifies an individualโs IgE response to birch. It is an in vitro quantitative assay, which is intended to be used in conjunction with other clinical information to aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases [1]. While allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing in many instances, both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology recognize that allergen-specific serum IgE testing may be preferred in some clinical situations. These include 1) the presence of widespread skin disease, 2) the recent use of antihistamines or other medications that can affect the results of allergy skin tests, 3) uncooperative patients, and 4) medical history suggesting that allergen skin testing would pose a significant risk for a serious allergic reaction [1]. A definitive clinical diagnosis of allergy should not be based on the results of any single diagnostic method, but should be made by a trained healthcare professional after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. More specific information about this allergen can be found at http://www.phadia.com/da/Products/Allergy-testing-products/ImmunoCAP-Molecular-Allergology/Birch/ Reference 1. Bernstein IL, et al. Although titers of 1:8 and greater are considered positive, confirmed serological diagnosis of blastomycosis by the CF test requires a four-fold or greater increase in titer between acute and convalescent specimens, and lack of corresponding titers to C. immitis and H. capsulatum. Specificity can only be demonstrated by immunodiffusion procedures. A negative CF test does not rule out the diagnosis of active blastomycosis, as less than 50% of sera from patients with proven blastomycosis are positive by this assay.

Description:
The diagnosis of Lyme disease is most often made by history and clinical examination combined with exposure in endemic areas. Amplification of Borrelia genomic DNA from blood, fluids or tissues can support the diagnosis. A negative result does not rule out Borrelia infection and appropriate serology testing may be clinically warranted.

Description:
Borrelia miyamotoi is a tick-borne bacterial organism that causes a nonspecific febrile illness that may be misdiagnosed as Lyme disease or other tick-borne infections. Positive antibody results suggest B. miyamotoi infection; however, other tick-borne organisms may induce cross-reactive antibodies. Negative IgG and IgM results do not exclude the possibility of B. miyamotoi infection.
