Description:
This assay is intended for the qualitative detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in ocular (conjunctival) specimens from patients suspected of having infectious conjunctivitis caused by C. trachomatis or N. gonorrhoeae. It does not detect Chlamydophila (Chlamydia) pneumoniae or other Chlamydia species. C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae are two of the most common causes of sexually transmitted infections, and both organisms can cause infectious conjunctivitis. Newborns are especially at risk for C. trachomatis or N. gonorrhoeae conjunctivitis if born to a mother with a genital infection. Symptoms of C. trachomatis or N. gonorrhoeae conjunctivitis may include eye redness, eye lid swelling, and discharge. Symptoms in newborns infected at birth typically appear within two weeks. A Not Detected (negative) result means that C. trachomatis or N. gonorrhoeae RNA was not present in the specimen above the limit of detection. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of infection and should not be used as the sole basis for patient management decisions. 1. Description:
C. trachomatis infections are the leading cause of sexually transmitted diseases in the united states. C. trachomatis is known to cause cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), epididymitis and proctitis. It is also the most frequent cause of non-gonococcal urethritis in men. Among women, the consequences of chlamydial infections are severe if left untreated. Approximately half of chlamydial infections are asymptomatic.

Several methods are available for the detection of C. trachomatis in clinical specimens, including giemsa staining of tissue, fluorescent antibody staining, culture, and nucleic acid detection. Although culture is very specific, it lacks sensitivity, so recommendations have been put forth to include multiple tests in assisting with a diagnosis of infection, including tests such as the CT/NG Aptima TMA Assay.

Description:
This definitive drug assay is used to measure concentrations of chlordiazepoxide, norchlordiazepoxide, and nordiazepam in serum. This therapeutic drug monitoring assay may be used to assess if chlordiazepoxide and metabolites are within therapeutic range. Urine and oral fluid are the specimens of choice for routine monitoring of patients taking prescription drugs.Chlordiazepoxide is a long-acting benzodiazepine used to treat adults for anxiety disorder, preoperative apprehension and anxiety, and withdrawal symptoms of acute alcohol use disorder. It is also used to treat children older than 6 years for anxiety.Chlordiazepoxide has several active metabolites, and prolonged duration of action may lead to serious adverse effects in older individuals, children, and individuals with disabilities or hepatic or renal impairment. Common adverse effects include drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, ataxia, forgetfulness, slurred speech, irritability, and rash. Chlordiazepoxide intoxication and overdose can be life-threatening, especially when chlordiazepoxide is combined with alcohol and other central nervous system depressants [1,2]. However, routine quantitative tests of chlordiazepoxide are not needed unless medical conditions warrant monitoring or for individuals taking other drugs that increase the risk of intoxication [2].The results of this test should be interpreted in the context of pertinent clinical history and physical examination findings.References1. Description:
The Chloride Test is a blood test used to measure the level of chloride, an important electrolyte. Serum chloride is the major extracellular anion and counter-balances the major cation, sodium, maintaining electrical neutrality of the body fluids. Two thirds of the total anion concentration in extracellular fluids is chloride and it is significantly involved in maintaining proper hydration and osmotic pressure. Movement of chloride ions across the red blood cell membrane is essential for the transport of biocarbonate ions in response to changing concentrations of carbon dioxide. Chloride measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of electrolyte and metabolic disorders such as cystic fibrosis and diabetic acidosis.
Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Description:
Measurements of chloride in conjunction with other electrolytes in liquid stool may help differentiate between secretory and osmotic diarrhea. This test may also aid in the diagnosis of primary or secondary chloridorrhea. Diarrhea can be categorized as secretory or osmotic depending on how the water content of stool is drawn in the intestine lumen. Secretory diarrhea is caused by defective electrolyte absorption that increases the stool's electrolyte levels. Conditions associated with secretory diarrhea include infection, neuroendocrine tumors, intestinal resection, diffuse mucosal disease, and congenital chloridorrhea [1]. Congenital chloridorrhea is a rare autosomal-recessive disorder characterized by watery stool containing excessive chloride. Stool chloride levels during perinatal period and infancy are often greater than 120 mmol/L [2]. Similar to congenital chloridorrhea, acquired chloridorrhea may manifest as hypochloremia, metabolic alkalosis, and no chloride in the urine, but the magnitude of excess chloride excretion in the stool is usually less [3]. Low levels of stool chloride may be seen in sodium sulfate-induced diarrhea [4].The results of this test should be interpreted in the context of pertinent clinical and family history and physical examination findings.References1. Description:
This panel measures serum concentrations of total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and provides a calculated total cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio. Measurements of cholesterol in conjunction with lipoproteins are used primarily in the risk assessment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) [1].Elevated total cholesterol is an established risk factor for atherosclerotic coronary disease [1]. HDL cholesterol level has been inversely related to the ASCVD risk, whereas very high HDL levels may increase all-cause mortality [2]. The cholesterol/HDL cholesterol ratio, also known as atherogenic or Castelli index, has been proposed as a stronger predictor of ASCVD risk than total cholesterol or HDL cholesterol alone [3].Treatment with N-acetyl cysteine for acetaminophen overdose may generate a falsely low result for cholesterol [4]. Venipuncture immediately after or during administration of the painkiller metamizole (dipyrone) may also lead to falsely low results for cholesterol [5].Note: Any or all individual tests from a panel can be ordered separately. The results of this test should be interpreted in the context of pertinent clinical and family history as well as physical examination findings.References1. True cholinesterase (RBC and plasma) activity is decreased in individuals with exposure to organophosphorous insecticides. Description:
This test may be used to detect exposure to or poisoning from organophosphate-based pesticides; to assess baseline levels before exposure to organophosphates; or to monitor cholinesterase levels in individuals who work with pesticides. This test is also used in the diagnosis of inherited pseudocholinesterase deficiency, for individuals with a family history who will be receiving the muscle relaxant succinylcholine during surgery. The Cholinesterase, Serum assay is often used as part of the diagnostic evaluation for individuals who present with symptoms of pesticide poisoning. Symptoms of organophosphate poisoning can range from mild to severe and may include sweating, salivation, miosis, hypotension, urinary incontinence, mental confusion, gastrointestinal spasms, anxiety, insomnia, tremors, convulsions, respiratory depression, and circulatory collapse, among others [1]. This test is also used in the diagnosis of inherited pseudocholinesterase deficiency, an enzyme deficiency characterized by impaired metabolism of succinylcholine, a muscle relaxant for surgical anesthesia. Individuals with this disorder who receive succinylcholine are at risk for prolonged postsurgical apnea and paralysis lasting 2 or more hours [2]. Thus, testing may be helpful to evaluate individuals who present with these symptoms postsurgically, as well as those with a family history of pseudocholinesterase deficiency who are scheduled for surgery.
