Description:
Tetanus is a life-threatening bacterial infection. The bacteria usually get into the body through a cut or wound in the skin. The bacteria make a powerful poison that causes muscles to contract uncontrollably in spasms. Tetanus is especially dangerous in young children and older adults.
Diphtheria spreads when germs pass from an infected person to the nose or throat of others. Diphtheria causes a thick coating in the nose, throat or airway and can lead to breathing problems, heart failure, paralysis or death.
This test assesses immunity against tetanus and diphtheria by determining levels of circulating antibodies to tetanus and diphtheria toxin or to measure the immune response, postvaccination, in individuals suspected of immunodeficiency disorders.
Significant deviations from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.

Description:
Like respiratory allergies, animal allergies pose a significant risk for the development of asthma and rhinitis. Blood IgE tests using whole allergen extracts from dogs provide a sensitive screening method to diagnose pet sensitization. In addition, the dog dander component panel is an IgE blood test using individual recombinant proteins from dogs, improving specificity compared to animal extract assays. Thus, the dog dander component panel helps differentiate an actual dog allergy from a cross-reactive pet allergy.

Description:
This test quantifies an individual's IgE response to dog dander. Allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing and may be preferred in some clinical situations. However, a positive test result only indicates that a patient is sensitized to the allergen of concern. Many IgE-sensitized individuals do not develop any symptoms when exposed to the allergen. A diagnosis of allergy should only be made by a trained medical provider after conducting a thorough clinical evaluation [1].More specific information about this allergen can be found on the following website: https://www.thermofisher.com/phadia/us/en/resources/allergen-encyclopedia.htmlReference1. Description:
This allergen-specific IgE antibody test quantifies an individual’s IgE response to dogfennel. It is an in vitro quantitative assay that is intended to be used in conjunction with other clinical information to aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases [1]. While allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing in many instances, both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology recognize that allergen-specific serum IgE testing may be preferred in some clinical situations. These include 1) the presence of widespread skin disease, 2) the recent use of antihistamines or other medications that can affect the results of allergy skin tests, 3) uncooperative patients, and 4) medical history suggesting that allergen skin testing would pose a significant risk for a serious allergic reaction [1]. A definitive clinical diagnosis of allergy should not be based on the results of any single diagnostic method, but should be made by a trained healthcare provider after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. More specific information about this allergen can be found at http://www.phadia.com/en/products/allergy-testing-products/immunocap-allergen-information/weed-pollens/allergens/dog-fennel1/ Reference 1. Description:
Measurement of dopamine levels in urine or blood in addition to urinary vanillylmandelic acid (VMA) and homovanillic acid (HVA) levels may aid in the biochemical diagnosis and monitoring of neuroblastomas [1]. This test may also be useful in evaluating dopamine-secreting pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs) [2].Neuroblastomas occur predominantly in children and are the most common malignancy under 1 year old. Neuroblastomas are catecholamine-metabolizing tumors, and thus catecholamine metabolites (including VMA and HVA) are more reliable than catecholamines as biochemical markers for neuroblastomas [1]. However, urinary VMA and HVA levels may have limited accuracy for diagnosis of neuroblastomas with high-risk metastatic biology [1]. Because poor prognosis is associated with immaturity of catecholamine metabolism, dopamine levels in urine or blood have been proposed as an additional marker to aid in diagnosis and monitoring of neuroblastomas [3].Most PPGLs secrete catecholamines, but the relative amount of dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine varies widely. Measurements of plasma free or urinary fractionated metanephrines (ie, the O-methylated catecholamine metabolites) are recommended by the Endocrine Society for the initial biochemical testing of PPGLs [4]. In patients with high clinical suspicion but normal blood pressure and normal levels of metanephrines, measurement of dopamine and its metabolites (HVA and methoxytyramine) may help diagnose PPGLs that predominantly secrete dopamine [2].The results of this test should be interpreted in the context of pertinent clinical and family history and physical examination findings.References1. Description:
Ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS) are minor metabolite of ethanol metabolites and excreted in urine for a longer time than ethanol. Positive EtG and/or EtS test results thus provide a strong indication that the person has recently consumed alcohol, even when ethanol is no longer detectable. The test is a definitive assay using liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC/MS/MS) methodology. Therapeutic urine drug monitoring of these metabolites is important for ensuring compliance to treatment strategies. Urine or oral fluid are the specimens of choice for routine monitoring of patients taking prescription drugs. Use of serum/plasma should be limited to anuretic patients, or where a patient's clinical appearance does not coincide with their prescribed medications. No single monitoring approach provides adequate information about the pattern or dose of patient drug use. Safest prescribing habits should include a combination of tools and laboratory test results to correctly detect drug use patterns.

Ethyl glucuronide and ethyl sulfate are metabolites of ethanol (alcohol) that may be present in urine after ingestion of, or exposure to, drinks, foods, medication or other products containing ethyl alcohol. Incidental exposure to alcohol-containing products such as mouthwash or hand sanitizer have also been shown to produce positive alcohol metabolites test results. LC-MS/MS testing detects EtG and EtS regardless of the source. Therefore, we encourage you to interpret alcohol metabolite test results in light of the clinical picture.

Description:
Methamphetamine has two isomers, d-methamphetamine (dextromethamphetamine) and l-methamphetamine (levomethamphetamine). d-methamphetamine is most often illicitly manufactured and is considered a drug of abuse (Crystal meth, etc.). It is approved as a treatment for ADHD and obesity, although its use is very limited. l-methamphetamine is used in certain nonprescription inhalers as a decongestant. This test is a definitive assay using a gas chromatography mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) method of analysis. In routine confirmation testing of amphetamines, the specific methamphetamine isomers are not differentiated, and reported as "Methamphetamine". In situations where this is an unexpected result, it may be useful to determine the relative percentages of each isomer present. The presence of the l-isomer at greater than 80% is consistent with the use of non-prescription inhalers. The presence of the d-isomer greater than 20% is consistent with the use of prescribed medication or illegally manufactured methamphetamine. Quantitative values cannot be used to assess the drug dose, because the drug is extensively metabolized and excreted in the urine.

Antidepressants are medications that can be used to treat mild, moderate, and severe depression. These medications may also be used to treat anxiety and eating disorders as well as pain (fibromyalgia and neuropathic). Antidepressant drug testing is intended for use in prescription adherence monitoring of patients prescribed antidepressant medications. Adherence monitoring requires prescribed drugs to be present, and the absence of non-prescribed drugs for these patient populations. Drug testing for prescription adherence can provide information for improvement of patient care. The results of drug testing can often prompt important clinical discussions with patients.

Description:
Antipsychotic (AP) drugs are widely prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia and psychosis. The so-called first generation or typical APs were developed in the 1950s and show severe side-effects such as extrapyramidal symptoms due to their pharmacological action on d2 and d4 receptors. As a measure of reducing these severe side-effects, a range of ‘second generation’ APs were developed. These newer generation drugs act considerably less on d2 and d4 receptors and therefore exhibit less extrapyramidal side-effects. Over the last decade, the prescription rate of APs (more notably second generation) has increased worldwide, [1-3] especially among young adults and children [1-4]. However, second generation APs are not entirely free of side-effects. Irrespective of their generation, it has been shown that these drugs can increase the risk of sudden cardiac death with studies showing that the risk of sudden cardiac death is increased threefold among patients treated with APs.

Description:
A single direct to definitive panel with the ability to identify multiple specific drugs and metabolites across drug classes facilitates enhanced patient care. The test is a definitive assay using liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC/MS/MS) methodology. Therapeutic urine drug monitoring is important for ensuring compliance to treatment strategies, as well as ensuring non-diversion for illicit purposes. Quantitative values cannot be used to assess the drug dose, because the drug is extensively metabolized and excreted in the urine.

Description:
In an emergency medicine or acute care setting, a definitive qualitative assessment of the presence of different drugs can be critical to patient care. Absence of an expected drug could suggest poor adherence or diversion whereas detection of a non-prescribed licit or illicit drug could indicate substance misuse or toxicity. Discrepancies between expected and actual results also call attention to potential medical factors affecting drug disposition. Drug cutoffs in this panel are targeted to detect potentially toxic or overdose situations. This assay is not intended for monitoring routine use of prescription substances.
