Description:
This allergen-specific IgE antibody test quantifies an individual’s IgE response to Epicoccum purpurascens. It is an in vitro quantitative assay that is intended to be used in conjunction with other clinical information to aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases [1]. While allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing in many instances, both the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology recognize that allergen-specific serum IgE testing may be preferred in some clinical situations. These include 1) the presence of widespread skin disease, 2) the recent use of antihistamines or other medications that can affect the results of allergy skin tests, 3) uncooperative patients, and 4) medical history suggesting that allergen skin testing would pose a significant risk for a serious allergic reaction [1]. A definitive clinical diagnosis of allergy should not be based on the results of any single diagnostic method, but should be made by a trained healthcare provider after all clinical and laboratory findings have been evaluated. More specific information about this allergen can be found at http://www.phadia.com/en/products/allergy-testing-products/immunocap-allergen-information/molds-and-other-microorganisms/allergens/epicoccum-purpurascens/ Reference 1. Description:
EGFR kinase domain mutations are found in 10-15% of lung adenocarcinomas, particularly those occurring in younger patients without a smoking history, and identify tumors that may have significant clinical response to EGFR-targeted kinase inhibitors. PCR-based DNA sequencing is used to assess for mutations in exons 18-21 of EGFR, which are the sites of greater than 95% of somatic mutations observed in tumors. This assay will also detect the T790M mutation, which is commonly seen in acquired resistance. With this information, physicians will be able to select those patients who are most likely to respond to targeted lung cancer therapy. In addition, follow-up samples from patients with resistant or recurrent disease may demonstrate an acquired T790M mutation, where newer FDA-approved agents have been shown to be effective.

Description:
This test, when used in conjunction with the measurements of other catecholamines, may aid in evaluating catecholamine-producing pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs). However, measurements of plasma free or urinary fractionated metanephrines (ie, the O-methylated catecholamine metabolites) are preferred for the initial biochemical evaluation of PPGLs because of their overall high diagnostic sensitivity [1].Most PPGLs secrete catecholamines and can cause catecholamine excess, resulting in hypertension, arrhythmia, and hyperglycemia. Left untreated, PPGLs often lead to life-threatening cardiovascular complications. The estimated prevalence of PPGLs is 0.05% to 0.1% in adults with hypertension and 1.7% in children with hypertension [2]. Recognizing the possibility of a PPGL and performing appropriate biochemical testing are crucial for the diagnosis [1]. Plasma or urine catecholamine levels may be used, in addition to metanephrine levels, to provide additional information during the initial biochemical evaluation of PPGLs (eg, when detecting dopamine-secreting paragangliomas) [2].Intermittent or insignificant secretion of catecholamines by some PPGLs may not increase catecholamine measurements. Physiological stress and certain medications (eg, acetaminophen, labetalol, and sotalol) may increase catecholamine measurements [1].The results of this test should be interpreted in the context of pertinent clinical and family history and physical examination findings.References1. |
|
Description:
Estradiol is a form of the hormone estrogen. The Estradiol test is usually ordered to measure estrogen levels in females who experience abnormal menstrual cycles, abnormal bleeding and fertility issues.
Measuring the circulating levels of estradiol is important for assessing the ovarian function and monitoring follicular development for assisted reproduction protocols. Estradiol plays an essential role throughout the human menstrual cycle. Elevated estradiol levels in females may also result from primary or secondary ovarian hyperfunction. Very high estradiol levels are found during the induction of ovulation for assisted reproduction therapy or in pregnancy. Decreased estradiol levels in females may result from either lack of ovarian synthesis (primary ovarian hypofunction and menopause) or a lesion in the hypothalamus-pituitary axis (secondary ovarian hypofunction). Elevated estradiol levels in males may be due to increased aromatization of androgens, resulting in gynecomastia. In men testosterone levels decrease while their estrogen levels increase as they age. High estrogen levels in men contribute to prostate cancer, heart disease, loss of muscle mass, fatigue, low libido, erectile dysfunction.
A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.
Includes:
Estradiol, serum.
Patient Instructions:
Some tests in this panel may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H or coenzyme R). Patient should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample.

Description:
This panel measures the concentrations of estrone and estradiol, the 2 most potent estrogens that are biologically active. This panel may help assess estrogen status in children and nonpregnant adults.Estrogens are endogenous steroids that regulate growth and maintenance of sex organs and secondary sex characteristics in women. Estrogens also have other functions and effects, such as production of liver proteins, arterial vasodilation, reduction of intraocular pressure, influence on mood, and maintenance of bone density in both males and females [1]; lack of estrogens has important consequences in both men and women. Low estrogen levels in normal men receiving a gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist and an aromatase inhibitor is associated with decreased sexual function and increased body fat [2]. Measurements of estrogens may help evaluate sexual maturity, menstrual abnormalities, fertility abnormalities, fetal-placental health in pregnancy, tumors that excrete estrogens, or feminization syndromes in men [3].Increased levels of estrogens may be observed in normal pregnancy, precocious puberty, hyperthyroidism, liver cirrhosis, and ovarian, testicular, and adrenal tumors. Decreased levels of estrogens may be observed in failing pregnancy, Turner syndrome, hypopituitarism, primary and secondary hypogonadism, menopause, polycystic ovarian disease, and anorexia nervosa [4].Estrone levels may exhibit diurnal rhythm in postmenopausal women because of the adrenal origin of the estrone precursor (androstenedione). Estradiol levels do not have the same diurnal variation [3].The results of this test should be interpreted in the context of pertinent clinical and family history and physical examination findings.References1. Description:
Estrone is a form of the hormone estrogen. The estrone test is ordered to evaluate postmenopausal vaginal bleeding due to peripheral conversion of androgenic steroids as well as to guide female hormone replacemnt therapy. Increased estrone levels may be associated with increased levels of circulating androgens and their subsequent peripheral conversion. Estrone is primarily derived from metabolism of androstenedione in peripheral tissues, especially adipose tissues. Individuals with obesity have increased conversion of androstenedione to Estrone leading to higher concentrations. In addition, an increase in the ratio of Estrone to Estradiol may be useful in assessing menopause in women.

This test quantifies an individual's IgE response to eucalyptus. Allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing and may be preferred in some clinical situations. However, a positive test result only indicates that a patient is sensitized to the allergen of concern. Many IgE-sensitized individuals do not develop any symptoms when exposed to the allergen. A diagnosis of allergy should only be made by a trained medical provider after conducting a thorough clinical evaluation [1].More specific information about this allergen can be found on the following website: https://www.thermofisher.com/phadia/us/en/resources/allergen-encyclopedia.htmlReference 1. Bernstein IL, et al. Ann Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2008;100(3 Suppl 3):S1-S148.

Patient Instructions:
You should fast for 12 hours before collection of the specimen. Fasting is defined as no consumption of food or beverage other than water for at least 12 hours before testing. Specimens should be collected in the morning since iron values decrease by 30% during the course of the day and there can be significant interference from lipemia. Some tests in this panel may exhibit interference when sample is collected from a person who is consuming a supplement with a high dose of biotin (also termed as vitamin B7 or B8, vitamin H or coenzyme R). Samples should not be collected during or soon after the administration of heparin. If using a testosterone cream please be sure you have not rubbed any into the antecubital area of your arm for the last 24 hours as it can give elevated results. Cortisol, Total assay not recommended when patient is on prednisone/prednisolone therapy due to cross reactivity with the antibody used in this assay. Patient should be cautioned to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours prior to the collection of a sample. In patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (ie, > 5 mg/day), no sample should be taken until at least eight hours after the last biotin administration. Avoid seafood consumption for 48 hours prior to sample collection. Estimated turnaround for results is 7 business days. If confirmation testing is required, the estimated time may be extended.
