Patient should refrain from taking vitamins, or mineral herbal supplements for at least one week before sample collection. In patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (ie, > 5 mg/day), no sample should be taken until at least eight hours after the last biotin administration. Description:
Free T4 by equilibrium dialysis is the most accurate measure of Free T4. Results are independent of the concentration of the T4-binding proteins, the presence of molecular variants of these proteins, or circulating autoantibodies. Free T4 is useful in distinguishing euthyroidism from thyroid disease. Thyroxine (T4) is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland. A test of the amount of T4 in the blood is a way to see how well the thyroid gland is working.
A significant deviation from the normal range may require further evaluation by your physician.
Alternative Name(s):

Includes:
Thyroxine Free, Direct Dialysis (FT4)
Patient Instructions:
Samples should not be collected during or soon after the administration of Heparin.

Description:
Measurement of thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroid peroxidase antibodies is useful in the diagnosis and management of a variety of thyroid disorders including autoimmune thyroiditis, Hashimoto's Disease, Graves Disease and certain types of goiter.
Thyroid antibody testing is primarily ordered to help diagnose an autoimmune thyroid disease and to separate it from other forms of thyroiditis. It may be ordered to help investigate the cause of an enlarged thyroid gland (goiter) or performed as a follow-up when thyroid test results such as T3, T4 and TSH are abnormal indicating thyroid dysfunction.
Alternative Names(s):
Anti-Thyroid Microsomal Antibody, TPO, Anti-TPO, Thyroid Antibodies, Anti-thyroid antibodies, TAA

Description:
A thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) blood test is used to check for thyroid gland problems. TSH is produced when the hypothalamus releases a substance called thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH). TRH then triggers the pituitary gland to release TSH.
TSH causes the thyroid gland to make two hormones: triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). T3 and T4 help control your body's metabolism.
Includes:
Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH)
Thyroxine Free, Direct Dialysis (FT4)

Samples should not be collected during or soon after the administration of Heparin.
